    Kim Whitman - Co-Lead

    Kim began her advocacy journey in 2018 when she co-founded a local grassroots organization focused on healthy boundaries around the use of edtech in her children's 1:1 school district.  She later became a member of the Screen Time Action Network and co-chaired the Screens in Schools Work Group for two years.  Kim is one of the original co-founders of the Phone-Free Schools Movement and she sits on the Advisory Board for Wait Until 8th. She continues to use her voice to amplify the research and science regarding the negative impacts of big tech on today's youth.  Kim resides in Overland Park, Kansas with her husband and two teenagers.

    Jodi Carreon - Co-Lead

    While volunteering at her kids’ school Jodi discovered students were focused more on screens instead of each other. Inspired to take action, Jodi has put her marketing background to work in advocating for a more intentional approach to technology use in childhood. In addition to SFCxUS, she is a member of the Screentime Action Network - Screens in Schools Work Group and Phone-Free Schools Movement. Jodi also founded a local parents’ group focused on limiting and intentionally using technology within her school district. Jodi resides in San Marcos, CA along with her husband, two boys and super lazy dog.

    Jennifer Henderson - Council Member

    Jennifer became increasingly concerned about technology, including her own use, when her daughter was very young. She began studying at Consciously Digital, the only ICF-certified provider of coach training in digital well-being. She is deeply involved in advocacy, bringing the Smartphone Free Childhood UK campaign to the US with other concerned parents. She also co-leads the MA Coalition for Phone & Social Media Free Schools, sits on the Screen Time Action Network, and is an ambassador for the Phone Free Schools Movement and Screenstrong. Jennifer lives in Stow, MA with her partner and daughter.

    Christina Dinur - Content Lead

    Christina is a mother of two young girls, and she is determined that they will grow up in a culture that values the richness of real life connection over screens. A recovering smartphone addict herself, Christina is involved in both local and national advocacy for delaying smartphones and enacting bell-to-bell phone-free school policies. She lives in Milwaukee, WI, with her husband, children, and a rotating crew of caterpillars in various stages of development.

    Jeff Miller - Council Member

    Jeff Miller lives in Arlington, MA with his wife, two elementary-aged kids, and two dogs. He advocated in his community for phone-free initiatives before joining the national effort through Smartphone Free Childhood U.S. He works in a strategy and finance role professionally and has served on 10 corporate boards. In addition, he serves on multiple nonprofit boards including Arlington Libraries Foundation and the Humanist Chaplaincy at Harvard and M.I.T.

    Kathleen Barlow - Community Outreach

    Kathleen Barlow is the mother of 6 kids and grandmother of 3. Kathleen taught middle and high school French for about a decade. She currently serves on the school board of her daughters’ charter high school. In addition to SFCxUS, Kathleen is also an active member of the Screen Time Action Network, the Phone Free Schools Movement, and the Tech Safe Learning Coalition. As the founder “Swimming UpScreen”, Kathleen blogs about screen-related issues, and also shares tips on how to delay and/or step back from tech overuse. She recently published a journal called “52 Screen-Free Experiences for Families.

    Emily Boddy - Council Member

    Emily holds a degree in Public Policy and spent years working in the judicial system and the nonprofit sector, focused on youth wellbeing and engagement. Emily is part of the MA Coalition for Phone Free Schools, ambassador with the Phone Free Schools Movement, and leads her local action alliance, ReConnect Western MA. In addition to her advocacy, she is a Trustee on the Board of her children’s Charter Public School, coaches girls’ youth soccer and sings in a local choir.  Emily lives in Northampton, MA with her husband, two children, part-time dog, and a regular flow of her kids’ friends coming and going.

    Jonathan Werbell - Council Member

    Jonathan is a parent of two children, ages 8 and 11, and lives in New York City. He serves on the Leadership Council of Smartphone Free Childhood US.  He is also involved with this work at his kid’s school, a larger network of New York City schools, and the Screen Time Action Network.  He has spent his career working within local government, technology, and the non-profit sector. 

  • Laura Derrendinger, Council Member

    Since 2018 Laura has used her background as a public health nurse to advocate for independent -  research informed policy and practice with the Screentime Action Network. Laura supports aligned organizations such as ScreenStrong, LetGrow, Simplicity Parenting, and the French organization, Collectif Surexposition écrans and the Distraction Free Schools Policy Project which supports state and federal legislation efforts to put upstream prevention policies tools in place. Prior to motherhood, Laura worked overseas in conflict zones with the independent organization, Doctors Without Borders. Residing in rural Vermont Laura and her husband have 4 children.

Our leadership team is comprised of subject matter experts operating independently and free of any commercial industry influence or funding. We are available for speaking engagements throughout the US.
